Expertise Project manager

Professor Radu Burlica is currently a UTIasi professor in the Department of Electrical Power. Professor Burlica has been working in the field of electrical discharge non-thermal plasma applications and reactor design for 16 years. He has published over 13 peer reviewed journal articles with over 300 ISI citations and has written 6 books. His work has been supported by CNCSIS, UEFISCDI, National Science Foundation USA, and others.

AWAG is an interdisciplinary project who brings together professors, researchers and experts in technical fields like technologies, plasma physics, engineering, biochemistry, horticulture, biology and plants genetics.

Project implementation phases

I. Building the experimental multi-reactors non- thermal plasma device (MRD) for Plasma Activated Water (PAW) production

1. Power supply and mini reactors (LU) construction and analysis of power per reactor.

2. The NTP Multi-Reactor Device experimental model.

3. Experimental data and PAW chemical characterization.

II. Developing a new PAW technology for plants growing with applications in greenhouses.

1. Plants treatment performing (water activated by cold plasma) at seed in laboratory conditions. Determination of germination degree at treated seed. Evaluation of cytogenetic effects induced by molecular species from activated water with plasma cold, in the root meristems, namely: mitotic index dynamics, types of chromosomal restructuring and their frequency correlated with the type of treatment applied.

2. The study of the effects of the NTP treatments (with plasma activated water) on the plants will be also studied by the content of bioactive compounds, beneficial for consumer health. Different analyses of antioxidants and antioxidant properties through spectrophotometric methods.

3. Evaluation of plant growth dynamic by biometric measurements and morphological characterization of crops. Determining the degree of tolerance to biotic and abiotic factors. Determination of production increase rate.
